Fish

With my interest in distortion of the lived environment, I frequently look for ways in which to depict and alter common items or occurrences in my work. Each of the painting in this series come from a single source: a snapshot of raw fish I captured one Thanksgiving. I then edited the pictures, some with multiple passes, through my phone’s built-in features. The resulting images are of a familiar object transformed by another familiar object, both mostly overlooked for more useful equivalents: cooked fish, and more advanced photo applications. Painting these altered pictures emphasizes simple, readily available items over their more advanced counterparts.
