The first step in creating a realist artwork is intense inspection of your subject, and understanding your materials; instructor Harley Duck will lead participants through creating a blind-folded self-portrait where observation with sight has been replaced by touch. Harley will also teach the lightness and darkness, and hardness and softness of artist’s pencils and how to apply them to what your fingers feel.
Recommended Materials:
- A set of artist’s pencils (includes HB, 2B, 3B, 2H, 3H, etc.)
- Eraser (Pink school-style, or kneadable)
- A sketchbook of high-quality drawing paper or loose-leaf drawing paper
Optional:
- Newsprint paper
- A tortillon (blending tool)
